Let’s take a look at 8 of the most beautiful and dog-friendly beaches you’ll love, both locally and further afield, for a long trip.
This secluded twin bay is just a 7 minute drive away, between Looe and Polperro. Within the historic coastline, Talland Bay is incredibly unspoiled and dog friendly all year round. The bay consists of two pebble beaches with mostly coarse sand, both protected by low grass and rock cliffs. At high tide there is plenty of sand to walk around and lots of places to cast your rod, as well as rock pools to walk around and explore. A short soft road provides easy access to both beaches, with paid parking on the main beach near the cafe. There is a smaller and less used parking lot for the east beach, which you can use for free.
On the Looe side is Hannafore beach to the south-east. It is easy to access and quieter than the main beach at Looe, which is popular with the dog walking community. The beach is mostly pebble and rock, with lots of rock pools to surf in the waves and great views of St George Island, a nature reserve you can visit by boat. The main car park is at Looe where you can take a lovely walk along the beach, but there is also a car park on the beach, giving easy access to the sand.
Lantivet Bay is located just west of Looe, 20 minutes from our accommodation. This bay is part of a series of three nearby: Lantic, Lantivet and Lansallos. All three are maintained by the National Trust. Steep cliffs, sandy beaches and shallow waters complement each other year-round in an ever-changing palette above: wildflowers adorn the cliffs in spring, turning red and purple with heather the summer sun, before warming the golden autumn colors. Lantivet Bay is a small bay, only accessible at low tide, making it a beautiful hidden gem of a beach for walking and reflection. The Lantivet Bay Circular Walk also offers a scenic 3 mile walk that is sure to leave many moving memories.

If you want to enjoy more of Cornwall’s coast and countryside during your stay with us, there are many places further afield to take you off your beaten track.
If you head to the north coast of Cornwall you will find the wide sands of Watergate Bay. The bay is protected by green cliffs along the coast, and has three kilometers of pure and golden sand. There are two car parks with facilities and local places where you can have a hot drink before taking your dog for a walk. If you are looking for a longer walk, you can enjoy a walk south along the coast path, which takes 45 minutes to Newquay. This hike will get your heart rate up and take you through hills and valleys as you take in the beauty of the northern cliffs and views of the Atlantic Ocean.
The pristine beaches of Treyarnon Bay lie between Treyarnon Point to the south and Trethias Island to the north. The area is untouched by commercial activity and is great for dogs all year round. Sand dunes and low cliffs provide the backdrop to the bay, with tidal waves, rock pools and natural pools providing plenty of water play opportunities for pets and children. It’s also one of Padstow’s best family beaches, with lifeguards on duty from May to September. The environment around the bay and the sand itself offers many walking paths, with the same access to the beach from the car park.
Fistral Beach is about an hour from Newquay. The west facing beach with great waves is one of the best surfing spots in the world. The beach itself is long and sandy, protected by high cliffs and grass – a great playground for the whole family. There are plenty of cafes and views to enjoy, as well as one of Rick Stein’s restaurants. This beach is simply beautiful and a great place to spend the day.
The 7 Best Dog Friendly Weekend Getaways In Northern California
A beautiful secluded beach, whose name reflects the Arthurian legend: Guinevere. The beach is about 1 hour 40 minutes from Looe, on the way to Penzance and the west coast of Cornwall. The area is full of natural beauty, surrounded by grassy cliffs that offer wonderful views of the Isles of Scilly. The walk from the car park at the top is a bit steep, making it a peaceful place to spend the 150 meters of clear sand with the little ones. At low tide it connects to the Sennenstrand in the south. The strong Atlantic currents that crash into the bay provide a fun trip for experienced surfers, and dogs are welcome year-round with a lifeguard on duty from May to September.
The longest excursion is Mullion Cove, a trip that takes 2 hours from Looe and 5 miles from Lizard Point. The small sandy beach at Victorian Harbour, owned by the National Trust, is visible at low tide. When the sand is hidden under the waves, you can fully enjoy the port from the cliffs full of vegetation, which overlooks a group of small islands along the coast, formed as a result of volcanic activity. The port was built in the 1890s to protect ships from the Atlantic crowd, and is therefore a beautiful and historic area where you can walk around and enjoy together, on the sand, along the cliffs or in the bay.
This is a taste of the various beaches along the Cornish coast; most sandy areas throughout the country are seasonal, if not year-round, dogs.
