Best Dog Friendly Pubs Kent – People travel miles to try the food served at this family-run gastropub. It only has 2 AA badges, but it has been recognized as one of Estrella Dam’s Top 50 Gastropubs. The rooms above the 13th century pub are full of character and, as you might expect from the name, dogs are as welcome as their owners.
Very good. Dogs are allowed throughout the pub, including the main restaurant, and food and water are always available. Not all rooms are suitable for dogs, however, as they are too small to accommodate pets comfortably. The large room can accommodate two people at once and this is clearly stated on the pub’s website. There is a one-off supplement of £25 for dogs.

The pub has eight modern en suite rooms ranging in size from compact to superking and four poster. We stayed in room six – a royal suite on the first floor at the end of a short corridor. Although the room was above the kitchen, we could hear the cheerful cooks singing every now and then, which didn’t bother us at all. In fact, we had a wonderful sleep on the amazing Hypnos bed, which was so comfortable it was hard to drag ourselves off it.

We didn’t need to use the complimentary ear plugs during our stay, but we enjoyed the tea, water and coffee. The shower room features lush Elsil and Taylor of London toilers and white towels. The decor was very elegant with antique style furniture, silk pillows and velvet beds. We didn’t have enough space for two dog beds in the room, but it was fine for one night.
Dog parking is available, although spaces fill up quickly, so you may need to find a spot in the village. After you’ve eaten the car, you can relax at the Pie Pub, a cozy area, restaurant and conservatory, filled with pictures and prints of dogs. I counted three open fires and/or wood stoves. There was a problem with the main fire when we visited and we got some smoke, but I don’t think that’s the norm!
Cool The Dog specializes in modern British cuisine, so expect pub classics with a modern twist. As mentioned above, the pub has won numerous awards and the seasonal menu champions fresh, local produce. When we visited – on the day the pub switched on its Christmas lights – we dined in the lovely conservatory area overlooking the courtyard garden and were served a complimentary amuse bouche before tucking into our three-course feast.
The menu had everything from roast beef to pigeon and venison, but my husband and I, who are vegetarians, had plenty of delicious food wasted! We still had plenty to choose from, the starter of milky goat cheese and sticky fudge pudding being particular highlights for me. There was also a wide range of drinks to choose from and the recommended wines, cocktails and gin of the month were all good value.

Overnight guests are asked to pre-order breakfast by filling out a form in their room – and it’s worth getting out of bed for. I chose homemade porridge with brown sugar and whiskey, which woke me up to a cool fall morning! Ernie and Stan were also very pleased with the delicious sausage. In addition to the à la carte menu, The Dog offers a monthly holiday menu and the pub’s Sunday roast is the stuff of legend.
No, but you may meet other visiting dogs, whether they’re dropping in for a pint with their owners or spending the night.
Wingham itself is a lovely village to walk around. Recommended by a local scout group, this one-mile walk takes in all the main attractions, including St Mary’s Church and the beautiful Wingham River. The road is dog friendly – but be sure to keep your pet on a short leash when leaving the pub as it is on a very busy road.
, which is a great place to visit with your four-legged friend. While the grand palace isn’t dog-friendly, the gardens are – and they’re open year-round. There are several hiking trails around the property, which has its own arboretum and woodland. Dogs must be kept on a lead. Tickets cost £8 for adults.
