Dog Friendly Beaches On East Coast
Let’s explore 8 of the most stunning beaches to fall in love with, both nearby and further afield for a longer adventure.
Dog Friendly Accommodation In South East Qld
This secluded cove with two bays is just a 7 minute drive away, between Looe and Polperro. Located on the heritage coast, Talland Bay is largely unspoiled and dog-friendly all year round. The bay consists of two pebbly beaches of mostly gray sand, both protected by cliffs of low grass and rocks. When it rains, there is plenty of sand to run on and a decent area to throw a pole, as well as rock pools to dig and explore. Short sloping paths provide easy access to both beaches with paid and displayed parking on the main beach near the cafe. There is also a smaller, less used car park on the east beach, which is free.
Located in the suburb of Looe, on the quiet south east beach of Hannafore. It is quite accessible and quiet compared to the main Looe beach which is so popular with the dog walking community. The beach is mostly pebbles and stones, low tide reveals many rock pools to dive into and beautiful views of St. George Island, a nature reserve that can be visited by boat. The main car parks are at Looe, which offers a pleasant walk along the beach, but there is also coastal road parking which allows easy access to the sand.
A little further west of Looe is Lantivet Bay, a 20 minute drive from our cabins. This bay is part of a nearby group of three: Lantic, Lantivet and Lansallos. This trio is managed by the National Trust. Steep cliffs, sandy beaches and shallow waters are complemented by an ever-changing palette throughout the year: the cliff tops are decorated with wildflowers in spring, red and purple in the sunny weather, before warming with the rich golden hues of autumn. Lantivet Bay itself is a small bay, only accessible at low tide, making it a beautiful hidden gem of a beach to walk and think about. The Lantivet Bay Circular Walk also offers a wonderful 3 mile run that is sure to give you plenty of tail wagging memories.

Dog Friendly Beaches On The West Coast
Heading towards the north coast of Cornwall, you will discover the wide, wide sands of Watergate Bay. Protected by high green cliffs along the coast, the bay has two miles of pure golden sand. There are two car parks with facilities and places to have a hot drink before walking the dog. If you are looking for a longer walk, you can enjoy a walk south along the coast path which takes about 45 minutes to Newquay. This hike will get your heart rate up and take you over hills and valleys as you enjoy the beauty of the northern cliffs and the view of the Atlantic sea.
Between Treyarnon Point in the south and Trethias Island in the north lies the clean sandy beach of Treyarnon Bay. The area is practically unaffected by commerce and dogs are allowed all year round. Sand dunes and deep cliffs provide a bay backdrop with low water levels, rock pools and a natural pool offers plenty of opportunities for water play for pets and children. It is also one of Padstow’s best family beaches and has a lifeguard from May to September. The landscape around the bay and the sand itself offers many hiking trails with direct access to the beach from the parking lot.
Fistral Beach is about an hour’s drive to Newquay. The west facing beach with its fantastic foam surf is one of the best surfing destinations in the world. The beach itself is long and sandy, protected by high cliffs and grass dunes – a wonderful playground for the whole family. There are many cafes and viewpoints to enjoy, plus one of Rick Stein’s restaurants. This beach is simply beautiful and the perfect place to spend a day together.
A beautifully secluded beach whose name reflects the Arthurian legend: Geneva. The beach is approximately 1 hour 40 minutes drive from Looe towards Penzance on the west coast of Cornwall. The area is full of natural beauty, highlighted by grass-covered cliffs with spectacular views of the Isles of Scilly. The walk from the car park at the top is a little steep, so it’s a peaceful place to run with your pup over 150m of clean sand. At low tide it also connects to Sennen Beach in the south. The strong Atlantic waves that crash into the bay offer excellent surfing opportunities for experienced surfers and dogs are welcome all year round with a lifeguard on duty from May to September.

The furthest excursion is Mullion Cove, a trip that takes almost 2 hours from Looe and is 8 miles from Lizard Point. A small sandy beach in Victoria Harbour, owned by the National Trust, is exposed during rainfall. When the sand is hidden under the waves, you can fully enjoy the harbor from the rocks with rich flora, from which you can see a number of small islands off the coast that were formed as a result of volcanic activity. The harbor was built in the 1890s to protect ships from the turbulence of the Atlantic and as such is a beautiful historic area to sail and enjoy together, be it on the sand, along the rocks or on its own bay.
These are just a taste of the wide variety of beaches along the Cornish coast; Most arenas spread around the county are dog-friendly seasonally, if not year-round.
