Dog Friendly Vacations Quebec – Does your dog come with you when you travel? This is the second dog-friendly trip with Henry, and although it takes a little more planning, it’s always a lot of fun.

(Our first dog-friendly trip was to California and it was so much fun! You can read all about it here.)

Dog Friendly Vacations Quebec

We love traveling with Henry, and this time was his first road trip. We traveled to Quebec City, which was much more dog friendly than expected!

Included in this blog post is how we planned the trip, our road trip packing list, and of course the dog-friendly places we visited in Old Quebec.

Choosing the right hotel is important for any dog-friendly trip. If you are traveling with your dog for the first time, check out this blog where I talk about how to choose a pet friendly hotel.

We traveled with my parents and their old dog, Lupo, a 10-year-old Coton de Tullier. Choosing the right hotel for all of us and our dogs was important.

We stayed at the Hotel Port-Royal near the Port of Quebec and in Old Quebec. We barely used the car during our 5 day stay, it was so conveniently located.

The daily pet service fee was $25/day (which was a little strange, since they didn’t clean our rooms during our entire stay due to covid). However, pet fees can be expected when you travel, so there is little in store for them.

I love that they have a kitchenette in their room, with a coffee maker, stove and toaster. Very convenient, because we brought our own breakfast and lunch, but above all because we could store Henry’s food in the fridge and freezer.

Since we were on the first floor, we had our own private patio where we could spend time with all the dogs, without disturbing anyone. It was the perfect place to have breakfast and enjoy some downtime together.

The nearby restaurant, Louis Taverne and Bar a Vin, was very nice and allowed dogs in their garden (as long as they didn’t bark).

In fact, many restaurants are dog-friendly. By law, dogs are not allowed in the restaurant on their own, but the patios are often dog-friendly, but you always have to ask, as we were turned away at one.

Since we were traveling with Lupo, our 10-year-old Coton de Tullier, we planned our days to see how much walking would be safe for him. Not to mention it was very hot all week!

Our days were spent exploring new roads and places, and for a few hours during dinner our dogs stayed with Linda, a lovely pet sitter we found at Rover, who took great care of our dogs. This really helped us, as we couldn’t leave the dogs alone in the hotel room.

Paw Fectly Pet Friendly Places

Planning ahead was key. We made all our dinner reservations before we left, so we knew what kind of schedule we could give the zookeeper. It also saved us a lot of time waiting at restaurants, and we didn’t have to struggle to find someone

I recommend planning ahead when traveling with your dog. Having your dog with you is an added responsibility and you want to make sure you are a polite dog owner.

& La Buche, an elevated version of a Quebecois favourite. We stayed on the patio, and probably could have brought the dogs. I recommend asking before you go!

For dessert or lunch, check out the Casse-Croûte Roquette! There were several dogs hanging around the yard when we left.

Québec City Vacation Packages

If you’re looking for a dog-friendly adventure while in Quebec, visit Parc de la Chute Montmorency. This 83 meter high historic waterfall has become the most popular tourist destination in the region.

Moment, cross the suspension bridge. Now I have a phobia of bridges, and I can’t date, especially with Henry (who was fearless), but my parents said it was great!

Where I like to go for a walk. To get there we took a cable car to get a panoramic view of not only the falls, but St Petersburg. Lawrence, Ile d’Orleans and Quebec City.

Parc de la Chute Montmorency is a great place to walk, explore and take pictures with your dog, but be sure to pack plenty of water for your dog, especially if you’re traveling here during the summer. We brought our portable water bottles. I loved how easily it fit into my belt pouch! (I’ll link some at the bottom of the post!)

How To Plan The Best Vacation With Your Dog In Quebec

Montmorency Chute was about 20 minutes from our hotel. After seeing the falls, we headed to Île d’Orléans, a foodie’s dream. It was a 15 minute drive from Chute Montmorency.

We drove around and kept the dogs cool in the car. We stopped for jam at Tigidou and ice cream and chocolate at Chocolaterie de l’Île d’Orleans.

Among other things to see are vineyards, pick your own strawberry fields and lavender fields. Ile D’Orleans is a foodie’s dream, and we will definitely have to go back to try more of the local dishes!

This was our first road trip with Henry, so of course we packed it. Quebec City is a 3 hour drive and Henry loves road trips, so we didn’t have to worry. If your dog is not used to car rides, consider some training before you go.

A good place to start when it comes to packing is to think about the things you use every day.

You should also measure the correct amount of food throughout your trip. We also considered refrigerating food (Henry is fed raw).

, because I knew that Henry would be with the pet for a few hours a day. If you are looking for any of the above items, I have linked them below:

We had a great time visiting Quebec City, and were delighted at how dog friendly it was! Of course there is so much to do and see, we should definitely go back.
